On May 5, 2025, the new board of directors of IEI was elected, an organization that, through a unique sensory certification in the coffee sector, protects Italian espresso and cappuccino.

Alessandro Borea, the new elected president, declares that the focus of the next three years will be on the growth of the IEI brand at an international level.

Alessandro Borea CEO of La Genovese, a historic Ligurian coffee roasting company, joined the Istituto Espresso Italiano in 2011 and has been an active member of the various boards of directors ever since.

The new board of the Institute for the next three years is also composed of Carlo Odello (CEO) and Gian Paolo Braceschi (DG) together with the directors Luigi Morello (Past President), Renato Bossi (Milani), Gaia Brunetti (Mokador), Michele Cannone (Lavazza), Barbara Chiassai (Essse Caffè), Luca Creti (Rancilio Group), Roberto Nocera (La San Marco), Luigi Odello (Centro Studi Assaggiatori) who was also confirmed as president of the scientific committee of IEI, Alberto Schiavon (Ryoma), Carmen Stanziola (Dalla Corte), Carlotta Trombetta (Costadoro).

Alessandro Borea declares: “It is a great honor to receive the trust of my colleagues, in particular I am happy that a roaster has been chosen to lead the Istituto Espresso Italiano, in such a particular and delicate moment for our sector, between raw material costs and product margins – began the new president of IEI, Alessandro Borea – I must thank Luigi Morello, outgoing president, for the work done to date and at the same time the team that will support me on this new path that will aim at the growth of the entire Italian coffee supply chain“.

Training, education and communication: the three pillars from which the mandate of Alessandro Borea and the new board will start to further strengthen the IEI brand.

The new president also states: “IEI is a unique brand in the world for the espresso sector, which we must strengthen in Italy through direct consumer communication actions and certification of premises and which we must grow abroad, where Italian espresso continues to enjoy public favor”.

Training and education must develop in parallel in order to convey all the value of espresso and the products we bring in the cup to the final consumer.
Alessandro Borea adds: “Our ambassador must be the barista, the last link in the supply chain before the consumer. We have excellent professionals in this sense, we must continue to focus on them so that they can bring the consumer closer, especially the consumer of tomorrow, with a more modern concept of espresso at the bar”.

He concludes: “communication will then be the other element that the Istituto Espresso Italiano will put at the center of its attention. We will have to strengthen the brand’s presence on all fronts, also through the use of traditional press and social media”.
